Workshop review: David Lake Landscape Workshop – Bathurst Regional Art Gallery

David Lake - Last light – White Cliffs 2009I was impressed with David Lake’s exhibition David Lake: Feet of Clay, at the Bathurst Regional Gallery - March to May. His interesting works full of light and extended horizons capture the big skies, mood and atmosphere of the Australian landscape. He has been inspired by the scorched earth and clear horizon lines of far west NSW, utilising this subject matter and transmuting it into works of art.

When I realised that he was running a workshop in Bathurst for one day, I joined the waiting list. Luckily I got in when someone cancelled out.

Chit Chat

MangrovesBoundaries… the edges between living things. So extremely important and yet so misunderstood and so easily dismissed. I am somewhat obsessed with them. In nature I am able to observe boundaries between trees, grasses, rocks and the negative spaces around them, and the edge between water and land. And then reflections muddle it all up as they mingle the two edges. Here is a photo of the edge of a mangrove estuary. I am in the process of working on a number of paintings inspired by this. No time to talk now must get into these paintings...
