Tutor feature: Robyn Collier - Australian Wilderness Artist

Robyn CollierDuring the recent Mitchell School of Arts, we had the pleasure of meeting Robyn Collier as she was running a workshop in the room next door. The workshop was called Working with Water. As the week progressed the days became hotter… I really enjoyed popping into Robyn’s class as the art works depicted stunning water scenes. Some waves could almost be touched and I longed to dive into them!

Healing Spaces: The Science of Place and Well-Being

How could a pleasant view speed healing? The author pursues this question through a series of places and situations that explore the neurobiology of the senses. The book shows how a Disney theme park or a Frank Gehry concert hall, a labyrinth or a garden can trigger or reduce stress, induce anxiety or instill peace.”

Workshop review: Mitchell School of Arts - Colley Whisson

Art work by Colley WhissonIn January Stephanie and I attended a week long workshop in Bathurst at the Mitchell School of Arts Summer School. The Summer School is organised by The Art Scene and Colley Whisson was our tutor.

Colley is a warm and dedicated teacher. He was well organised and always started workshops on time (which is more than can be said for myself or Stephanie; we were always a little late – especially back from morning tea!). Colley made sure that he worked with each and every person in the class every day. The physicality of the workshop left us both exhausted at the end of each day but eager to learn more every morning.

Workshop review: Mitchell School of Arts - Patrick Carroll

Jenie Clough

I have just returned home to Sydney after an inspiring week painting at the Summer School. My tutor was Patrick Carroll and the class title Abstraction and Reality gave scope to paint in a variety of different ways.

After arriving at Charles Sturt University and collecting keys I set off to find the classroom. Map reading was never my strong subject and after getting the number wrong - all went well and I unloaded my car of paints, canvases and easel.

Chit Chat

Horses looking over the fenceI am so glad that it is now February!  It’s not that I don’t enjoy Christmas but it does stall all the other things I would normally do.  Perhaps I am just becoming a grumpy old woman and my time painting is precious.  Or I just love my life and want to get on with it.  I am a doer not a dreamer.

A lot has happened since December.  Have just about finished unpacking boxes from our house move in October… My new studio is set up and starting to work…We are expecting our first grandchild… and heaven forbid I now have a ride on mower!  We are dividing the grassed areas around our house into paddocks so we have less grass to mow and are waiting for Autumn to start planting our garden.  Here are our horses looking over the fence… the grass is always greener…

Teresa

After a great week painting at the Mitchell School of Arts Summer School with Teresa - I drove from Bathurst to Canberra through some stunning country, especially around the Abercrombie River area, to view the Masterpieces from Paris at the National Art Gallery of Australia. For me Starry Night was breathtaking and I could only stand in awe at the lusciousness of the paint and the beauty of the colours. For those of you who can't get to Canberra, you can view the collection online and whilst it will never do justice to the real paintings you can at least listen to the audio tour as if you were there and learn more about this wonderful collection. The exhibition will be open until 5 April 2010.
