Workshop review: Portrait Workshop with Merilyn Rice
Medium: oils or acrylics
I have always wanted to learn to paint portraits, and as I have been setting up my new studio I came across photos from the past of a couple of portraits I had done of an old boyfriend. I showed them to Merilyn, my art tutor and she said that she would be running a portrait workshop for two days over two week period in a couple of weeks time. Would you like to attend? I thought to myself...Archibald here I come!
But on the day when I turned up at Merilyn’s wonderful studio in the Evan’s Plains area of Bathurst I was terrified! I thought “What am I doing here? I can’t paint portraits!"

Chit Chat
I am totally bemused…
By the infatuation that so many people have for chickens! I can sort of understand that they have been with humans for thousands of years and perhaps there is something comforting in that…just like when you sit in a veggie garden and feel …peaceful and close to the growing energy of domesticated plants (that idea comes courtesy of my niece Emma). The theory goes that bushland has not been domesticated and the feel around plants in the wilderness is very different than being with plants in a vegetable garden.
I recently went to the Chook auction in Bathurst and was enthralled by the Australorp Roosters. Glimmering, glossy black-green feathers against a red comb and regal black glance. I think I may be getting the bug! And Colley if you read this I haven’t forgotten and will be sending you some chicken pictures soon!
Here is a picture of Portia and Janeway.
All new additions to the family!
Teresa
Both Teresa and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate two of the Artists who also share their passion and pass on their knowledge by teaching.
