Workshop review: Mosaic Madness at NOLASTUDIO

Hawthorne Canal Community Mosaic RuralIt all started with a chat on Facebook, a friend just happened to mention that she had to go and finish the mosaic she was doing. Mosaic? I had made a mosaic table when I was twelve and remembered it very fondly as good fun.

As I'd been feeling a bit flat I thought I'd like to try my hand at mosaic again. I searched the internet and discovered there was a two day workshop that weekend which sounded great but it was already 4.30 pm on Friday afternoon. I quickly sent an email asking if I was too late. Read more >

Bush in the RainWell winter is well and truly here!  We are expecting snow again soon in Bathurst as it has been so cold and we are getting that strange weather pattern where in one day you can get rain, hail, snow, sleet, wind and sunshine all within an hour. It is really exciting and enlivening. Before I broke my leg I used to go on long walks in the rain as that’s when the colours in the bush really shine. What seems to be a dull greeny-grey becomes all manner of different shades of all different colours. Here is a photo I took in the rain.

Burning stumpI went to a farewell at the local bushfire brigade and I spent some time getting singed as I tried to get close to this bonfire where a huge old tree that had fallen down in a storm was being burnt. I took this photo which may not be technically brilliant but I’m sure that I can say to Salvador Dali “eat your heart out!”

It's holiday time again - from my TAFE course that is. And so it's a good time to consolidate what I have learnt.

I have found that Winter Schools are a very enjoyable way of trying some new techniques and processes, especially something a little outside my comfort zone. And we have so many choices this month - over 70 different art workshops offered in just 3 weeks.

Join one if you can, it's a wonderful experience to be among so many practising artists of all levels and you often learn as much from each other as you do from the very experienced art tutors.
