Featured Art Books Often seen as dark and gloomy, oils can, in fact, be used to create colourful and light paintings that are wonderfully expressive. One significant characteristic of oil paint is its richness and depth of colour, something that is of particular interest to Nicholas Verrall. In May this year, I was very excited to join Yvonne Langshaw in a two day workshop at Ku-ring-gai Art Centre in Roseville, NSW. The studio was light and airy with plenty of room for everyone to work comfortably. Tables and easels were all set up and ready for the workshop participants.
Kay loves nature and the landscape, the subtleties of light, shadow and the moods of changing seasons. She particularly likes the landscape within the Bathurst Regional Area: rolling hills, lovely little streams and beautiful rivers, secret places to withdraw and rejuvenate. Kay is also inspired by rural historical buildings, whether magnificent heritage structures or someone’s humble corrugated iron abode of days long gone. Equally important for Kay is the subject of still life, capturing a moment in time.
Grafton Artsfest was born of a dream to present to the community one of the best cultural experiences one could enjoy in Australia and now, seventeen years down the track, that dream has been achieved.
