And what better way to celebrate such natural beauty, than putting brush to canvas or pen to paper at a long-weekend creative arts retreat?
This September, six of the nation’s leading artists will visit Hervey Bay to tutor at the University of Southern Queensland’s (USQ) fourth annual MCGREGOR ON THE BAY.

Each will bring a wealth of wisdom and practical experience to their respective workshop, ranging from painting to photography to jewellery making.

The four-day intensive workshops will be presented at USQ’s Hervey Bay campus, located just a short drive from inspirational scenery, wonderful walking beaches, sub tropical rainforest and a wealth of historical buildings.
The balmy springtime climate and picturesque scenery will provide an idyllic setting for creativity and ample opportunity for inspiration.
Leading national artists and highly sought-after tutors, JOHN WILSON, CHARLES SLUGA and LYN DIEFENBACH will offer classes in AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES IN ACRYLICS, WATERCOLOUR TO THE EDGE and PASTEL POTENTIAL respectively.

Charles Sluga is an internationally recognised artist, and it is not surprising that his watercolour class sold-out within a week of enrolments opening.
Katoomba-based artist, John Wilson has over forty years of experience and is one of Australia’s leading painters with works in public, corporate and private collections throughout the world.
Yeppoon master-pastellist, Lyn Diefenbach’s intermediate to advanced pastels class will explore the timeless theories of line, tone, colour and edge as well as sound compositional principals.

For the creative arts enthusiasts, there are three diverse classes to choose from; DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, CALLIGRAPHY and JEWELLERY MAKING.
Toowoomba photographer, DON HILDRED’s digital photography workshop will appeal to anyone who in keen to understand and work more like a professional photographer using the most up-to-date technology.
Distinguished Australian calligrapher, GEMMA BLACK will present an exploration of Celtic Art tradition and their calligraphy hand; ‘uncial’ for all levels. Gemma has taught nationally and internationally for over twenty years and is an Honoured Fellow of the prestigious Calligraphy& Lettering Arts Society, UK.

And finally, Ipswich artist, MAY BARTRUM will offer a class in the art of Metal Clay Jewellery in which participants will create beautiful jewellery and wearable art in copper and bronze.
With a maximum of just ten spaces available in each, these workshops have been designed to give participants more individual attention in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
