The use by artists of visual sketchbooks is a fundamental part of developing their art practice. Whether a novice or professional artist, the ability to document progress and to visually work through ideas is an important step in creating work that has a depth of meaning to the artist and its audience. The sketchbook can provide the blueprint to thematic consistency in a body artwork, or it can provide an irreplaceable document of a journey.
