In Search of Form: From the Founding of Rome to the Renaissance with Victor Greenaway E-mail

Castel San Angelo

Rome, Orvieto, Deruta, many small Umbrian towns, Florence

May and September, 2010

Discovering Italy is based in Orvieto in Umbria, that wonderful, magical "green heart" of Italy, land of the saints, with its Etruscan treasures, Medieval hill-top towns, Renaissance piazzas and enduringly warm and generous people.

All our programmes and itineraries offer a wide variety of options throughout the Italian peninsula with a special focus on Umbria, Rome and Florence. We also offer MASTER CLASSES in ceramic, drawing & painting as well as a “Grand Collections” tour of the major Italian galleries (Rome, central Italy, Florence & Venice)

With offices in Australia and Italy, we offer:

  • Fully escorted individual or group travel
  • Customised/Tailor-made itineraries for small groups or individuals
  • Special focus, small group tours: 'hands-on' classes in sketching, ceramics and cooking
  • Build your own itinerary from complete, single-day modules
  • Better choices for Senior travellers
  • School groups

All programmes include options for:

  • Excellent accommodation: monastery, 3* - 5* hotels, villas, apartments, B&Bs, agriturismi
  • A huge choice of activities across a broad range of interests
  • 24 hour assistance where needed - English speaking guides

We take our time to show you the REAL Italy, through language and culture, the arts, nature, history and the amazing tastes and traditions of a great gastronomic heritage.

Itinerary

We begin our journey in Rome (3 nights) and end in Orvieto (8 nights) with an optional 4 day (3 nights) guided Florence extension, “The World of Michelangelo and the Rise of the Renaissance”. This extended programme to Florence runs only with a minimum of 4 participants.

Orvieto

These pre-set programmes have been devised for small groups sharing a common interest in drawing, ceramics, art history, good food, great wine, relaxed, companionable and informed travelling, with a special interest in Italian arts and culture.

The programme encourages a personalized discovery of the uniquely Italian way of life by introducing the group to professional artists and individuals who are passionate about their life, culture, history and work and, of course, great food and wine. These groups have been running each year now for 9 years.

Duomo di OrvietoThe programmes include drawing sessions in Rome and Orvieto led by Australian artist Victor Greenaway as well as hands-on maiolica drawing classes led by Italian maiolica artist Marino Moretti. The hands-on sessions are for all comers, no previous experience is necessary. But also, for those with only a passing interest in hands-on activities each session lends itself as well to great photographic opportunities and great personal experiences.

Included are accommodation, many meals in great local restaurants, wine tastings, special produce tastings and a cooking class, excursions, entrances to museums and archaeological sites, professional guides, interpreter, transport, hands-on classes and tuition and 24 hour assistance.
